For Luděk Mikloško

Through the nineties at Upton Park,
A giant keeper between the sticks,
With fearless hands and steady heart,
A goalie saving kicks and flicks.

From distant shores he came to us,
A stranger only for a while,
Yet soon the fans sang out his name,
For courage, grit, and humble smile.

When strikers thought the net was theirs,
And thundered shots with all their might,
He sprang through air with outstretched hands,
And turned despair to pure delight.

Through rain-soaked pitches, winter winds,
And battles fought on Saturday,
He wore the jersey with pride and honour, (373 times)
And gave his all in every way.

But more than saves and matchday cheers,
More than records, Man U denied,
He earned a place in Hammers’ hearts,
Where memories they still reside.

Now one last whistle marks the end,
As silence falls across the ground,
Yet in the future generations,
His name will always still be found.

So rest in peace, dear Luděk now,
Your watch is done, your duty through,
But in the stands and in your song,
The West Ham faithful remember you.

My name is Ludo Mikloško
I come from near Moscow,
I play in goal for West Ham,
West Ham!
When I walk down the street,
Everybody I meet says,
Oi big boy,
What’s your name,
My name is Ludo Mikloško
I come from near Moscow,
I play in goal for West Ham,
West Ham!
